Types of Legacy

There are two main legacies that you can leave:

  1. Residuary legacy - A percentage or fraction of the remainder of your estate, after all other payments have been met. A residuary legacy has an advantage over other types of legacies as it keeps pace with inflation
  2. Pecuniary legacy - a fixed amount of money that has been specified in your Will

Other legacies

  1. 'Specific gift' legacy - If you choose, you can leave specific items in your Will, jewelry to your niece or your book collection to RNC.
  2. Reversionary legacy - A reversionary legacy allows you to leave a gift to a loved one for use during his or her lifetime, and then it will pass on to a specified person or charity after this time.
  3. Donation in memory - You may want to request that friends and family make a donation to RNC in your memory, perhaps instead of buying flowers.
